I've noticed that the speed of email notifications seems to be different for different parts of the site.

I get email notifications instantaneously for the following, immediately after they're posted:
  • Direct Messages
  • Scifi Forum
I have almost never posted to the Scifi Forum, but I did today and @Hobbit replied and I got the email notification right away. I compared what the site said as to when he replied against when I received the email and they were the same. About 15 minutes had elapsed for both by the time I came to the site to look at his reply.

However, it takes at least 30 minutes for me to get an email notification of replies to threads I'm watching in both the:
  • Fantasy/Horror Forum
  • Writing Forum
I'm not sure about the other forums as I'm not active on them. But is there a reason for the delay in the Fantasy/Horror and Writing Forums' email notifications, or maybe there's a setting that can be changed either in my account or on the site itself?

Nothing particular or deliberate, RM - but I'll pass it on to the cyberelves and have a look myself.

Oh, I didn't think it was deliberate at all. No worries there.

FYI, I can't remember a time when it was any different. But I noticed the difference a few months ago and I finally got around to asking today.

Had a look, but can't see anything. Couple of minor tweaks but nothing major. I'll let you know if the cyberelves find anything.

Thank you! Btw, I received email notifications of your replies to this thread immediately too.

It's nothing in the settings of the software and I think it is a bit random by design. Not sure how to best describe this, but the way I think it works is that there is no background process on the server running sending out these notifications. This functionality is most likely triggered at intervals when someone visits the webpage and there is probably also a limit on how many emails are sent in one batch. Not sure if that makes it clearer :)

Thank you! Of course, I wish there had been a setting or something, but this helps. I'll simply try to be more attentive and stop in more often.
