We have a movie thread so why not a TV series thread too?

Post your latest TV series you've been watching - what you like / recommend / don't like.

As mentioned in the other thread, I've been watching a French series called The Bureau - a well executes spy thriller, up to season 2 now.

Also started Maniac (with Jonah Hill and Emma Stone) - which "follows two strangers who connect during a mind-bending pharmaceutical trial" - Ok after a couple of episodes but I've been on The Bureau each night lately.

Last night, I watched the first episode of season 1 of Swedish supernatural fantasy thriller TV drama Jordskott. I hope to watch more episodes tonight, but so far so good. A nod to Twin Peaks in the first episode with the pie eating. Remote imaginary town Silverhöjd, lumber, children going missing.

I've heard that's good, might have to check it out too...

Finished watching the seven part series Escape at Dannemora, based on the real-life prison escape in 2015. A very well done series directed by Ben Stiller and with Benicio del Toro, Patricia Arquette and Paul Dano in lead roles.

Seen it advertised.... interesting cast.

Here. plans to watch stuff over the Xmas break have not gone to plan.

I have still to tackle Man in the High Castle, Season 3... and Bird Box...

.... but I am watching old Twilight Zones and old Doctor Who (Peter Davison era).

Not what I planned!

I'm going to write old Top Gear. Bear with me, it's not quite magical or mystical in any traditional sense, yet it is still so much more fun than any Top Gear since Clarkson and crew left. Now, considering what a pig-head Jeremy can be, is he not then possessed with some kind of magic for them to still be that great to watch on TV repeats? :)

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I'm glad that in an age where people seem to be extremely sensitive about what's considered inappropriate, some shows aren't remotely afraid to be offensive for the sake of comedy.

Star Trek Deep Space Nine Season 5 is one of the things I’m watching now. I have been re-watching all the Trek series and finished Enterprise and Voyager a while back. I forgot how great Deep Space Nine was, it has some of my favorite characters.

I watched the first two episodes of True Detective season 3 this morning. I forgot to eat breakfast till after, except for a glass of Darjeeling, so I guess that means it was good again. Mahershala Ali put in an impressive performance at least. Some (superficial) similarities to season 1, but that isn't a bad thing after the season 2 train wreck. Look forward to watching again tonight.

I've started True Detective Season 1, really liking it so far. Harrelson and McConaughey are very good (the story's just as much about their characters as it is investigating a murder), and episode 4 which I just watched really picks up!

the season 2 train wreck.
I've heard that a lot - am wondering whether I should be bother or just go to season 3 after 1...

@Westy Definitely skip season 2, for the time being at least. Part of what was great about season 1 was the online speculation surrounding the plot and the literature that inspired show runner Nic Pizzolatto, namely The King in Yellow (fiction), and horror writer Thomas Ligotti's The Conspiracy Against the Human Race (non-fiction). Many of McConaughey's dialogue about philosophical pessimism is lifted straight from Ligotti's book. Hopefully season 3 will be as involving as the premiere season. I miss watching and thinking about shows like this from week to week, instead of consuming Netflix & Amazon bloat on a binge.

I am currently watching blindspot. I can't wait for the next episode to be out. I'm happy Jane and Curt are back together.

@Westy At what rate are you watching True Detective? Have you finished season 1 yet? What did you think?

Episode 3 of season 3 once again excellent.

Finished Season 1 a few nights ago - thought it was excellent! The slow reveal throughout the episodes, the way the story was told in the now and the past, the dichotomy of the two detectives, the location and cinematography, the acting...all so good.

It's interesting I read that McConaughey was initially slated as "Marty", but insisted on taking the part of the troubled Cohle. It's hard to think what it would have been liked if the two actors' roles were reversed...they're both good, but McConaughey did such a great job.

I will watch season 3 soon, just taking a break so it's not too familiar straight after season 1.

I also just finished the first season of Barry - a hitman moves to LA, joins the local acting group and starts to question who he is. This is a pretty good dark comedy, a bit gruesome at times, a bit heartfelt at others, it's very well done. It's also been renewed by HBO for a second season.

I saw the pilot of Barry and then didn't carry on. Perhaps I should revisit.
